Event Recap — Stop #2

Shred Fest 6

May 28–31 — Blue Mountain Event Center, Wilseyville, CA

Shred Fest 6

Rain hit Blue Mountain right at the start of the week and changed everything. The loose dirt and dust that defined the 2025 course got packed down into fast, tacky trail that had riders running higher tire pressures and hitting corners faster than they ever have out here. One timed run seeds your bracket, then head-to-head borderX-style racing through the heats to a six-rider final.

The addition this year was a rock garden built into the hairpin corner near the bottom of the course. Sacramento rider Jeff Bushey spent three weekends building it. Most riders navigated it cleanly in time trials. In the head-to-head heats it became the defining moment of every run.

Rider Spotlight

Nico Aleman

Nico Aleman

Nico Aleman is a VESC developer with The Float Life who helped shape how DIY boards ride, and he finished 2nd in Pro Men at Shred Fest 6 on a platform he built from the firmware up. He started riding in 2019, earned a computer science degree, and discovered VESC when the GT did not fit him. He spent hundreds of hours developing the firmware that now runs on roughly half the boards at every race, and added the remote feature that lets riders adjust board angle in real time.

He went 4th in time trials with a 3:02.350, then battled through to the final where he edged Jack Minsker at the line by about three inches to take 2nd.
