Thirty-Four Seconds in the Dust: The Onewheel Story of Northwest Electric Fest 2026
Cameron Patecell won Mens Pro at Northwest Electric Fest 2026 with a scored time of 8:47.130, taking his second straight win at the event by 34 seconds over Jack Minsker. Ahni Romine won Womens Pro at 9:59.700 and Tim Vandehey won Mens Legends at 7:40.300. The USA FLT sanctioned Onewheel race was held July 15-19 at Havenroot in Veneta, Oregon.

The Course
Narrow singletrack, potholes deep enough to end a run, a relentless downhill grade, and a dust cloud that punishes anyone not out front. Ask the Onewheel field what makes Havenroot different and they land in the same place.
"I call Northwest the hardest race cuz it's just that course is so technical and it's one of the longest heats as well," Patecell told USA FLT. "The whole time is just like you don't know what's coming because it's dusty and the shadows and it's just so bumpy out there like and it's super downhill."
Minsker, who has been to every Northwest Electric Fest and helped build some of the trails, named the same two problems.
"There's some potholes in that trail that are, you know, enough that if you go into it, you're not coming out of it," he said. "If you're not in first, you are in a cloud of dust."

Patecell had won Seek n' Shred in 2025 and again in 2026, and Northwest in 2025. What he wanted here was the second half of the set.
"It was just solidifying that I, you know, do it again," he said. "Just felt that pressure to be able to say I did it two in a row."
On a course this long, nobody is ever safely ahead.
"The whole time I was like, I just have to not fall but go fast enough they don't catch back up," he said. "Jackson can always catch back up. He's scary."
Why the Results Sheet and the Podium Do Not Always Match
USA FLT scores the qualification time trial, because that is the run chip timed at every sanctioned event. The additional heats that events run to settle their own podiums are frequently not timed. When riders save their effort for the heats, the two sheets come apart. That is why Minsker is third in the event's own scoring and second here.
Minsker treated his qualifier as reconnaissance. "That was my sight lap. I hadn't looked at the trails yet," he said. "I'm gonna take my first one slow, and then I'll hit my second one faster." He never got the second one.

Patecell described the same problem from the other side.
"They never time the head-to-heads, which is when people actually set the fastest times," he said. "I was like 30 seconds faster or something on the head-to-head than in my time trials."
Neither rider knew the qualifier was the run that counted. USA FLT has the format under review for 2027 so that the scored run is unambiguous and every rider knows which clock counts before they clip in.

For Ahni Romine of Corvallis, Oregon, this was the only race on her calendar, and she won it by 36 seconds.
"This is kind of my big race for the year," Romine said. "I've done Shredfest three times, so I'm usually there, but I was graduating this year. So this is my only race I get to hit before going to college."
She has been on a Onewheel since she was 11 or 12 and racing since 2022, and she started a long way from Oregon singletrack. "When I started Onewheeling I lived on an island in Alaska and there's not really much to do otherwise," she said. Speaking before the race, she picked out Heather Graehl, who she was set to line up against for a third time: "She's an amazing rider and she's so fun to race with." Graehl finished third.
Romine races on a borrowed board most weekends, from the Sharky Shred Shop, and is looking for sponsors. She is on Instagram at @superbuffluigi.

Tim Vandehey of Seattle won the 50 and over class by 74 seconds, the largest margin of the weekend, on a board built for him by Chris Spriggs.
Northwest is where he started. He came down four years ago on an XR having never ridden alongside another rider. "Saw an ad for Electric Fest, came down, brought my XR, and everybody had GTs," he said. "I was like, I've always been one board behind." He raced here for the first time three years ago and has not missed it since.

Ten riders made Mens Amateur the largest class of the weekend, and Cody Thornton held off Dane Berry by 2.9 seconds to win it. Thornton is on Patecell's watch list and is not old enough for Pro yet.
"He's crazy fast. He's super scary," Patecell said. "The young kids just have the endurance like crazy. They just don't have to slow down."
More Than a Race
Northwest Electric Fest is a participant event, not a spectator event, and that is by design. Between heats the venue becomes a playground: axe throwing, pie eating, raft battles, stein holding competition, a pull-up contest, a freestyle park riders session all weekend, and jump bags for the brave. Travis Tatum put on a show winning the in the Float.NLC trick comp.

Vandehey, five years into the sport, put the draw simply.
"It's the people, for sure. This is a community. It is a race. It gets very competitive. But at the end of the day, you come back to camp and the camaraderie, the camaraderie is definitely felt."
What Comes Next
Patecell leads the Mens Pro off-road championship with 52.36 points from two races, with Minsker second on 64.63. Under the USA FLT formula each class winner scores 0.00 and points accrue with time deficit, so the lower total is the better one.
Rank | Rider | Races | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
1 | 2 | 52.36 | |
2 | 2 | 64.63 | |
3 | 3 | 91.39 |
Romine's win puts her on 0.00 in Womens Pro, though she needs a second sanctioned finish to qualify for the main championship order. Cody Thornton leads Mens Amateur on 0.00 across two races.
The remaining points races on the 2026 calendar are Best of the West, Wheel Life Rally, and the Amped Electric Games finale in Bentonville, where Onewheels will run Thunderdome. Minsker took third in Mens Pro at Race for the Rail last year and is going after the win. Patecell is in talks to buy an F18 with the goal of racing both Onewheel and EUC at Amped. "I really want to make Amped because it would be sick to race on both," he said.

What is Northwest Electric Fest? Northwest Electric Fest is an annual multi-day personal electric vehicle festival in Veneta, Oregon, organized by Jesse Cargile at the Havenroot venue. The Onewheel racing is sanctioned by USA FLT and the event also counts toward the Best of the West Series.
Where is Northwest Electric Fest held? The event is held at Havenroot, 24487 Bolton Hill Rd, Veneta, Oregon, about 15 miles west of Eugene.
Why do USA FLT results sometimes differ from the event podium? USA FLT scores the qualification time trial, because that is the run that is chip timed at every sanctioned event. Events run additional heats to decide their own podiums, and those heats are not always timed, so a rider who saves their effort for the heats can place differently on each sheet.
How does USA FLT score a race? USA FLT scores the qualification time trial at each sanctioned event. Championship points are calculated as ((your time minus the winner's time) divided by the winner's time) multiplied by 1000, so the class winner scores 0.00 and lower points mean a better ranking. Only your best two results per class and race format count toward your season standing.
Who leads the USA FLT Mens Pro off-road standings? As of July 2026, Cameron Patecell leads Mens Pro off-road with 52.36 points from two races, ahead of Jack Minsker on 64.63 and Jay Odinokov on 91.39. Lower points mean a better ranking.
How many races do I need to qualify for USA FLT standings? You need at least two finishes in the same class and race format during the season to appear in the main championship standings. Riders with fewer than two finishes are listed separately.
How do I race at a USA FLT event? USA FLT sanctions ladder classes from Novice through Pro, plus Youth, Teen, Womens, Clydesdales, and Legends divisions. Membership and the full 2026 schedule are at usaflt.com.
